With fewer than 400 North Atlantic right whales left in the world, WDC is dedicated to securing a future for this amazing and vital species. WDC works to reduce the human impacts that these whales face and give right whales the best chance to recover.

Policy work is about nudging forward each day towards solutions to large and complicated issues with many stakeholders. This involves sifting through hundreds of pages of government reports, writing and submitting comment letters on policies which will affect right whales, and participating in a calendar full of meetings dedicated to finding ways to save this species. This aspect of conservation requires a painstaking level of diligence and patience but is incredibly impactful for North Atlantic right whales. 

Your donation will enable us to advocate for the recovery of right whales, including ensuring a proposed rule that would protect right whales from vessel strikes goes into place. We are working in collaboration with the US lobster fishery, conservation organizations, and science groups to reduce accidental entanglements in fishing gear by 90% and give more fishermen access to new fishing gear that will enable right whales and fishing communities to thrive.
